flower salon at droog, amsterdam…
Posted in amsterdam, handmade, nature, pia's photos October 23rd, 2010 by pia

Yesterday I took some time out with Yvette (and marie, of course) to explore the flower salon/1 exhibition at droog. It was quite spectacular, in the subtlest of ways. I particularly loved photographer maurice scheltens cut outs, the individual flower displays complete with labels on canvas tables from vlinder en vogel (which Yvette translated for me as ‘butterfly & bird’ – beautiful name)…

and the string gardens

I also loved that you could purchase part of the trunk of a dove tree ( a fabulous idea from flower salon/ contributor jos bregman). So I did, of course. Read more about Jos’ idea here.

After our peruse throughout the gallery, Yvette, marie and I headed to Puccini’s for a hot chocolate. miam.

PS Flower salon/ is located at various locations around Amsterdam, but today and tomorrow are the last days. I will try to see some of the other exhibitions today if I can – if I do, I’ll be sure to share the inspiration with you here in the (blog)house.

…this sweet charm necklace made by lennebelle (a.k.a the lovely Lenneke Kooijman)  looks so utterly charming in it’s glass tube, I could not bare to take it out… until today…

10 photographers, 10 photos each: the 1010 project…
Posted in photographers, pia's photos October 18th, 2010 by pia

On October 10, 2010, I took ten photos…

“10 photographers. 10 photos each. All taken on 10/10/10. A single day represented in 100 photographs. No special occasion, no big event, just the essence of daily life captured through ten lenses.”

I was one of the ten asked to participate in this special online exhibition created by victoria. So on Sunday October 10, 2010, my camera was with me all day. At around 6pm I went for a walk  – the same walk I do most days, through a park toward the river amstel. But on this particular day, at this particular hour there just happened to be the most glorious ray of sunshine beaming through the very part  of the park that I always walk through. Upon entering, I found a swarm of tiny flies that looked like specks of dancing light. I couldn’t help but spend time with them –  capturing them catching light.

I had all intention of sharing a selection of 10 photos taken throughout the day, but once this moment arrived, I knew it was how I wanted to document the day – I believe every day has at least one moment that brings joy, and for me, this moment, as simple as it was, was that moment.

Beautiful. Wild. Calming. Ann Marie (from the gorgeous blog age old tree)’s  recent photos have once again captured my imagination and whisked me away to a far off land. Click here to see her video of wedding rock, in california. And I love that her last beach wander was with this lovely one.
