It’s beautiful riding around this city on my bike feeling the chilly breeze against my face, leaves falling all around like it’s raining gold.
I thought it about time I tell you what I’ve been up to for the last 5 months. Have you been wondering? Maybe you have, maybe you haven’t, but I’ll tell you anyway…
I’m writing my second book. It’s the nextย Made by Hand book and yes, it’s Amsterdam. I’m still working on it and at the moment I’m writing and editing images. Autumn is the perfect time to be writing – being tucked up inside mon petit bateau as the weather turns cold and damp.ย Inside here it’s super cosy, and I spend my days making cups of tea and writing about the ateliers and boutiques I’ve chosen for the book. It sounds romantic no doubt, but of course there is alot happening behind-the-scenes. Writing books is intense work. But, the wonderful parts override the hard parts, and one of the best parts of this job is the excitement of discovering these special places and being able to share them with you. One of the difficult parts is keeping them secret for so long! But that will make the book unique and special which is always my goal. So, until I finish I may be a bit sporadic with my posts but oh, I really hope you’re gonna love what I am creating…
Amsterdam: Made by Hand will be released worldwide in April, 2010 by The Little Bookroom.
What exciting news! I can’t wait until it’s out since I love my copy of your first book. As a writer who is working on a couple of projects right now, I completely hear you when you describe the writing process. So much of it for me involves forcing myself to sit down and write every day. I am easily distracted!!
This was a lovely post. Thanks! xoxo

Pia, that’s a gorgeous collection of photographs and a lovely post, today. Visiting your blog (daily), feels a little like popping round for a cup of tea – it’s a self employed designer’s life force. Thank you.

Love the black and gold pix of this post – very evocative of the greying of the weather in Amsterdam at this time of year.
Looking forward to getting a copy of your book once it’s out. I once lived in Amsterdam, and still travel there frequently (a visit to celebrate Sinterklaas is up next) so I’m very curious about which ateliers you have included…
Good luck with the rest of the writing!

I just left Amsterdam last Thursday and I was relishing autumn there. On my last day I stood with my bike canalside and a shower of golden leaves came down on us. It was a magical time of year to be there and your pictures captured it!
I can’t wait for your book to come out. It sounds great. I loved the shops and boutiques I visited and look forward to hearing about more!

Dear Pia,
I think we had all guessed, but that won’t make the wait any easier! It will be wonderful to return to Amsterdam and wander with your magical eye. I’ve got my faves in the Jordaan, but don’t know much at all about the other “quartiers'” made-by- hand potential, so can’t wait!
Best of luck on the last leg of book 2, and now the bets are on for SYDNEY Made by Hand or perhaps something completely different for book 3???

Your comments have helped me soar through another day of writing – I think finally revealing what I’ve been working on and getting your wonderful reactions is just the antidote I needed to my procrastination.
THANK YOU!!!
judith b – enore merci. I’d love to do Sydney indeed! But book 3 is already in the making, and yes, it’s something different entirely… perhaps you can guess that one too ๐

Pia,
So happy to hear your news of book #2. “Paris” is so divine– my copy is already dogeared, and it led me to one of my favorite adventures during a trip there in September– merci! merci! Pia! I can only anticipate something as luscious on Amsterdam. And since I have never been there and dearly want to go, maybe your book will be what leads me there at last. Just stick with it, and you’ll get there lickety split! Joan
