holiday gift ideas: for her
Posted in christmas ideas, fashion, handmade November 26th, 2008 by piablog

It’s not news to you that as an interior stylist I derive alot of my inspiration from nature. And I’m just as besotted with the era of the roaring 20’s, in both interiors and fashion. so when I began creating this selection of fashiony gifts ‘for her’, I wasn’t surprised to see that my inspirations were so apparent…

1 + 2. This peacock purse is from ruby red rose in Bristol, UK. The fabrics and designs are lush, and a clutch purse is just such a perfect, girly gift, non? $85

3. I love vintage hat pins! Surely I’m not the only one? These are cute as, and come from Callooh Callay’s etsy vintage shop in Missouri, and cost $22.

I do hope you find some pieces in there for the girls in your life, if they are anything like me then they will love these items. I will just add a little disclaimer here that I have only selected a few items from just a few of my favourite boutiques and designers. I know and love WAY TOO MANY boutiques and designers around the globe who fit into my philosophy to recommend in just one post, so please be sure to check out the fashion and handmade categories while you are here – I mention favourite designers throughout the year and will continue to do so. Also remember to click on the links above and check out what else is in each store because there is PLENTY more where these came from! Oh and I can’t help it, just one more for the road:

yellowy loveliness…

…from the vintage fashion collection of Boston’s thirteen eighty-five, beautifully captured by photographer Jeff Allen. Not only that, but at the recent Baked Fresh market, thirteen eighty-five’s creator Effie found a fabulous yellow tent on ebay to house her collection (and read what she says about what it was like to be under the tent on such a grey day! yet more proof that yellow is bound to brighten your spirits)

Some of her pieces are still available in the thirteen eighty-five etsy boutique, click here to have a look-see.

Hmm now we’ve featured homewares, art, fashion and even DIY in this yellow love week line up… so what’s missing?

How gorgeous is this dupioni silk dress? It’s poetic, its romantic, and it’s something I would most likely never wear unless someone was throwing a Tess of the D’Urbervilles party of sorts. (which, by the way I am hooked on right now. Hooked. )

makool2.jpg

The dress is from the very cool Makool. I must also add that the photography is sensational don’t you agree? Check out the etsy boutique here, and the Makool blog here.

Be Happy Now’s tiny books are a bit of finger-tingling gorgeousness too. And guess what? This next image will give you a clue…

rainydayart.jpg

This beautiful artwork from Jose Lampreia is appropriately titled rainy days. Yep, it’s raining in Amsterdam. Aren’t we all surprised. Not. Meanwhile, I’m told it’s sunny and 30C in Sydney right now. Pfff. I shouldn’t be too green as just as I wrote that, I looked out the window to see a horse and carriage clopping along my street. In Amsterdam, anything and everything goes – I probably could get away with wearing that dress after all.

This is a little gem I’ve been keeping hidden in my stylists black book for a while now. Its the fashion label of Johanna Schafarschik called Comtesse De La Haye based in Hamburg, Germany…

hanna4.jpg

Don’t you hate when I keep secrets? I know you do. But good things come to those who wait! Click here to check out Johanna’s new Autumn Winter collection. She also has a fabulous online shop for those of us who have, shall we say, inexorable impulses…

hanna1.jpg

And here is another little secret: The name Comtesse De La Haye comes from Johanna’s ancestor Comtesse Florentina de la Haye who was born into a noble family close to Paris in the mid 1800’s. Apparently Florentina left the bourgeois existence of the French Aristocracy (go girl!!) early in her life and fighting against the high society pressures she fled the country and followed her heart to start a new life with her non-aristocratic German love. What strength! What determination! And yet still so romantic. Just like Johanna’s designs…

Love that bag.

the charming wolf has charmed me

I always knew Native Kee was a cool blogger, but for some reason I only just discovered she is also the designer behind this fabulous NYC brand of 100% organic cotton lingerie called Loup Charmant (which means ‘the charming wolf’). Now, truth be told, I am not a lingerie gal. My girl friends balk when they hear my underwear collection only extends as far as Bonds hipsters, in a variety of colours (just the other day back in Sydney, I was seriously excited to go to K-Mart and pick up some new additions – in stripes, bright yellow, and Dutch orange. Yeehaah!!).

But. And there is always a but(t): Loup Charmant has saved me! I’m in love with this range and will placing my order very soon.

Thanks for re-inspiring my lack of lingerie interest, Kee, you’re da gal.

xx

PS my apologies for scribbling all over your beautiful image. Hope you will forgive me.
