a thing for baskets…
Posted in amsterdam, pia's photos October 26th, 2010 by pia

This past month I’ve developed an obsession for baskets. I spotted these by one of the houseboats in my neighbourhood.  I love the idea of growing conifers or the likes in random, mismatched baskets. Seriously, can you ever have enough baskets? I don’t think so.

I do so adore baskets too. I prefer the simple ones, straight lines, nothing fancy going on, filled with natural objects too — like piles of wood or acorns or just filled with leaves placed on my back porch. 🙂

Have been obsessed w/ baskets my whole life! I have way too many of them, waiting to be put to good use. Recently gave away a few; realised I still have a few to bring to the Netherlands. 🙂 xo

These are lovely, Pia, a fab spot! I think there is something quite festive about them, too.

I don’t think you can ever tire of baskets! And boy has it changed into full “fall” affect there…I was there 3 weeks ago and the leaves were just beginning to change. Enjoy it’s beauty.

I too am in love with everything wicker and basketish! My husband and I moved to France this past February from the US, and I immediately fell in love with the fact that at the market everyone uses wicker almost picnicky baskets to do their sunday shopping, rather than plastic/tote bags. I was amazed to see the stylish version of what we called in Philadelphia “granny carts” – ie wicker tall hamper looking baskets on wheels. We use ours every week, and its a life saver. Here is a picture of our massive wicker basket market love: http://outlawnotahero.blogspot.com/2010/10/thoiry-sunday-market.html

Perhaps bc they are natural(ish) & yet we can use them – it is rare to be able to do so. Is it a deliberate or accidental basket of firs? Are they awaiting delivery for Christmas at the nearest elf village?

My grandfather was a gardener but not an aesthete. He grew things in buckets. If only I’d discovered the little second hand store down the road from where I work before he grew too ill to garden. Its window is full of baskets of all shapes and sizes just perfect for stashing in corners with pot plants in them… perhaps I’ll have to start a basket garden and blog its progress…
