erin’s on fire!
Posted in artists, techie stuff March 12th, 2009 by piablog

…not literally, i assure you. but have you seen what she’s been up to lately at the design for mankind headquarters? Beside establishing her very own magazine, which has been filled with awesomeness since its inception last year, she has been busy creating project after project, including free encouragement, giveaways galore, and bakery where she helps bake businesses with collaborator jaime derringer of design milk. I can barely keep up! Because as if that was not enough, Erin has just begun another super cool project of the video variety called dialogue

Erin says the goal of dialogue is simple: we want to say what we’re not saying: “talk about what we’re not talking about. you know, the realistic side of living a life of creativity.” She has rounded up a slew of artists to speak on some great topics, the first episode being about “how to keep the balance” featuring artists Jen Gotch, Lisa Solomon and Kelly Lynn Jones….

so for all the artists and designers and people who want to be artists or designers of some kind out there, click here to view the first episode! hmm, i wonder who else erin has rounded up for dialogue…?

no ordinary dwelling…
Posted in artists, nature March 11th, 2009 by piablog

booyah! (i don’t know if that’s how you write that word but hopefully you know what I mean)

How awesome is this dwelling? I mean, let’s just say we got lost on our way to our treehouse yesterday, and instead we stumbled across this place. Would we mind? No way! I’m all over this place. aaaaall over it.

The pattern is created by the über talented Alan The Gallant. And the image I found via the dear Nicole at 46th at grace.

new etsy shop alert…
Posted in artists, etsy favourites, handmade February 27th, 2009 by piablog

I am super excited to have just discovered that Joetta from Little Yellow Bird has opened an etsy store! I can’t believe I didn’t discover this piece of juicy news until now. The above photograph is one of the first images I ever saw on her gorgeous blog a year ago. It was love at first sight. Then I saw her embroidery work and my heart skipped several beats.. not in a row, more like… doo – doo — doodoodoo – doo – doo — doodoodoo — doo – doo…

Joetta describes her shop as “my life’s expression through thread, yarn, and the act of looking.” All her embroidery work are on vintage linen and are one of a kind. She also does custom work of embroidered portraits or text. oh wouldn’t one of Joetta’s pieces make the most beautiful gift for someone special? Or like, me?

Check out her store called Bird and Bear right here. Congrats Joetta!!

Van Gogh and the colours of the night
Posted in amsterdam, artists February 13th, 2009 by piablog

My dear friend Riley and I just spent the morning in the Van Gogh and the colours of the night exhibition which opened today at the Van Gogh museum here in Amsterdam. We absolutely loved it. We both adored the sketches and letters presented, in particular the “study of two cottages”. We also loved starry night over the rhône.

There was a collection of old books with incredible photographs of the moon, dating back to the early 20th Century. Stunning. I will be heading back to this exhibition soon as there was just so much inspiration.
