I am delighted, as you can imagine. How many times did I wish for it to snow when I returned to Amsterdam? Countless, I thought it was all in vain. But no! Because I woke up to a blanket of snow all over the boat. And as soon as it was light enough, I pulled on my long johns and 4 other layers of woolens, grabbed my camera and headed outdoors. The snow was perfectly powdery and every sound was muffled – the passing bikes, our footsteps, even the rijks bells were softer and more gentle than usual. Oh, it was magical…
After our walk we headed into a café to warm ourselves with some hot chocolate. It was so cozy inside…
Then, I noticed something in a not too far away tree. Something completely familiar in the strangest of settings. Had this little guy followed me from warmer climates? Looks like he too, was enjoying the snow as much as I…
xx
PS then I walked past this sign as I exited the park gates…
ha! not bloody likely.
That is a beaut. I love the ‘sound’ after snowfall. So peaceful and crunchy…we are in the middle of an ‘inch per hour’ snow storm here in NY..despite the obstacles it puts many in good spirits. The commeraderie the neighbours share from shovelling against the ever increase powder growth..the knowing glances from passersby as one slips and slides..brilliant!

Gezellig – isn’t that the word? Back when I spent time in Amsterdam, a friend of mine lived in a flat overlooking the Vondelpark. Another beautiful place in a beautiful city.
The photos are amazing.

Pia, seems the snow has made up for being away from the sunshine and the colours. It’s beautiful. I, like many Aussies, have never seen the real stuff – just the sludge that appeared during a year 6 school trip.

Hi Pia
Did you know that there are a lot of these birds in the Vondelpark? They live there, and there is a funny story about how they came there but I don’t remember. So if you come there more often, keep looking for these little green guys and gals.
Btw: beautiful website!
