This morning I woke up to find barrels of plump snowflakes tumbling from the sky. My little floating home is covered in blankets of the stuff, and the canal is a thick frozen slushy, as white as white can be. I could not wait to get out amongst it this morning, to feel the crunch of the snow beneath my rain boots. All this snow has lifted my spirits tremendously. The haze of exhaustion suddenly doesn’t seem as impenetrable, my body not as stiff. My camera though, is on its last legs – it’s been playing up for a few weeks but I have been willing it to work, desperately needing it to to get me through to the deadline. It will only work if I use the shutter release cable, and as awkward as that is to walk around with, it hasn’t stopped me taking these photos this morning, with clumsy gloved hands…
oh, I am a happy girl when it snows.
You take the most gorgeous pictures! so calm and wonderful!
The snow is almost gone here already, looking at your photos makes me miss the mute calmness snow seems to make.

It’s delightful to see so much snow falling back home, and i have been begging my Holland friends and boy for snaps and twitpix all day, so thanks for posting.
I’m torn between hoping it will stop so my flight can make it back to Holland this week, and wanting it to stay a winter wonderland as it is so lovely.
Fingers crossed for a white Christmas in Holland!

Pia, All across America stores are selling MADE IN HOLLAND EGGNOG. I bought some and added a shot of Rum and found it was so powerful I had to check the label on the eggnog. Our store bought eggnog usually doesn’t have any alcohol in it, but the Dutch Eggnog has about 15%—talk about a merry Christmas!!! Oh My~~~ Another Dutch product to hit the market this season tastes a lot like BAILEYS is CHOCOVINE~~~ another OH MY ~~~~Lots of good cheer coming from the Netherlands!

After seeing your last post, I actually dreamed of moving to Amsterdam last night. I had been accepted to a grad school there and was frantically looking for a place to live… I’m hoping this dream will come true in the next 2 years. Thank you for sharing such lovely photographs to help my dreams along. 🙂

You’ve taken me into a completely different world today. I’m waiting for the snow queen to emerge from under the hazy bridge in the distance. Entirely enchanting!

Oh, your pictures just made me so happy. My best trip to Amsterdam was in the winter of 2005 (I think), and it snowed… It was so magical… I was slipping and sliding all over the city, couldn’t get enough of snow-covered canals 🙂

These photos are so lovely. They make me miss the first snow when everything is so still and quiet. Even though that snow may have backed everything up and no one can get to work or do anything. The calmness from the snow was still a really nice feeling.

I love popping on your blog after a couple of months and enjoying a handful of delightful stories, pictures and projects all at once!
This post in particular made me smile and even gasp. I love snow. So far this winter, here in New York, we’ve only had a few flurries. I’m just itching for a big, beautiful white storm!(then quietly loathe the dirty, grey clumps of slush the day after) You captured your blanket of white so beautifully. Postcard perfect!

Ohhhh wow. Your photographs are absolutely beautiful. So soft, calming… And how on earth did you get the snow to fall? I feel as though I’m actually there with you. So glad that I found you through Crescendoh this morning.
