as you know i like to take you with me as much as possible when i am traveling. and on one of my recent trips, I came up with this idea – snapping a photo and recording some of the city sounds where the photo was taken. Starting in Paris, this one was captured while i was sitting in a cafe one morning, sipping my tea in the 6th. There were some men sitting by us, talking about what Parisien’s love to talk about most: food.
So welcome to my first post of this special series called soundscapes…

I love this idea of posting a picture with sound- very clever. As you know I live in Califonia and to feel like I am in wonderful Paris you just made my day. It is my birthday and I am very good friends with a wonderful French architect who lives here now. When I saw him I said ” I would love to be in Paris now but I will take the next best thing… to be kissed Happy Birthday by a handsome French man.” What a coincidence you would post this today… and I love that teapot — I’ve been looking for the perfect tea pot and I think that is it.

oh yeah! so many great comments! It is rather fun.
I have decided I will be doing this all this week, ending with a few soundscapes from the houseboat here in Amsterdam.
Jennifer – the guys are great aren’t they?! The one guy is talkng about the food and lifestyle in Corsica – can you hear him mention ‘jambon’ ‘le tomate’ etc (ham, tomato…) – he is saying he just loves the simple life there, and the simple food – he talks about the fresh night air, and is so full of enthusiasm for it. I adore their conversation.
nancy – by visiting this blog you are certainly hanging out in my head a little! although the blog is tame and organised – its not so neat in this melon of mine 😉
marie – i can’t remember the name of the cafe but it was in rue tournon, up toward the large government building at the end.

Absolutely wonderful idea. You totally transported me! If only you could record scent…ah, the paris cafe scent should be bottled and sold…strong coffee, buttery croisants and a hint of men’s cologne would be my recollection.
