a gateway to somewhere special

I’m about to take you somewhere really special. It’s somewhere on a small island. It’s somewhere very green. And it’s somewhere that is all about good farming, good cooking, and good eating.

Intrigued?

I hope so. This will be a rather exclusive peek at a very new venture for a young couple who have spent a number of years planning their dream. And now, they’ve made it happen. And I get to be one of the first to introduce them to you!

I’ll be back soon with the goods.

xx

PS My good friend & fellow food stylist Yvette is pretty talented to say the least. She is the creator of the gorgeous cut out you see above, recently featured in Delicious magazine here in Holland. Although she has nothing to do with my next post, I just had to show off how good she is with a black pen and pair of scissors.

snow in Bergen, Norway…
Posted in nature February 5th, 2009 by piablog

…how gorgeous are these photos that reader Benedicte took the other day in her home town of Bergen in Norway? Be still my beating heart.

Benedicte dear, you make me want to jump on a ferry to your beautiful land right now.

All this snow reminds me of my childhood winters growing up in Quebec. I used to taboggan down the backyard rock garden, skate on my local lac, cross country ski in my local park and make a snowman everyday. Walking to the bus stop to go to school was not the best part of the day. But it was a hardship worth enduring.

Is it snowing anywhere else that I should know about?

…or Madrid. Can you tell I’m a little envious about everyone else’s snow? Well, I suppose I can find contentment with the fact the birds in my canal can walk on water…

PS Vic even got a snow day off work. Come on Amsterdam, don’t let me down.

snowball fight in paris, anyone?

This postcard is over a hundred years old. It’s from postaltrice’s very aweseome vintage postcard collection. I would have liked to have been in Paris last weekend when it was snowing, it would have been so much fun to walk the snowy streets with camera in hand…

…by the work of photographer/artist Kate Breakey. Jenifer mentioned her in a recent post and since then I have not been able to get her photographs out of my mind. I now pass my inspiration-addiction to you. Have a look at her work here, and read about how she creates her pieces here. You can buy her book Small Deaths, here.

PS Right now I am loving listening to the whisperings: solo piano radio through itunes while I work. It is perfectly described as “piano music to quiet your world”. Perhaps you might like it too.
