What a whoppa of a year this is going to be – can you feel it? This special energy is so ripe and rich, I could cut it with a knife and serve myself a slice for breakfast to keep me going for the day.

the mix of modern objects with found objects – only just the beginning.

But let’s not babble on but get straight to the goods we want to hear about: trends in home design.

We’ve seen a great shift in retail this past couple of years toward the handmade. And folks the good news is that it is only just the beginning – we haven’t even scratched the surface of what is to come.

Most of us are already keen users of ebay and etsy, but it is still a rather new if not undiscovered territory for most. For those of you who are struggling with your sales do not fret! You are pioneers and pioneers need patience, so hang in there and keep creating. And for those who haven’t yet taken the plunge, go for it for as moloko says, the TIME IS NOW

So what’s my word about 2008 trends?

  • This year we are ‘hunter gatherers’.
  • We will be seeing and creating some seriously sophisticated spaces that scream ‘design savvy world citizen’
  • We will not longer be impressed by expensive spaces – the ‘wow’ factor will now come from talent, ingenuity, and individualistic style that breathes refinement and wisdom .
  • We will emphasise service in our lives.

    trend: christmas colours

you can’t go past the traditional green and red at this time of year, but teaming it up with craftpaper browns, rich chocolate (and a peacock! Although this one came from a postcard, I like this one better) works beautifully and gives the traditional theme some serious style.

the little makeup bag is handmade from vintage French fabric by Ici Et Là in Australia (I bought mine at the Surry Hills store but looking at their website they have spread across the country which is great news) and the gorgeous little handstitched horse on the right is a find in a French brocante (I will be showcasing the village toward the end of this week). I had full intention of sending this creature to my dear friend jboo for her birthday back in april but I fell in love with it and have not parted with it since. Sorry jboo!!

and this little guy i spotted this morning, what a neat christmas gift he would make!! he’s not mine unfortunately, but i am happy with my basket-clad push pedal, promise!
