blog favourites on friday…
Posted in blog favourites June 12th, 2009 by piablog

It occurred to me today that I haven’t done a blog favourites post for a while. Mainly because I have the ‘blogs in the spotlight’ widget to the right there (have you seen it?) where I feature favourite blogs I’m reading weekly. But today I decided to gather some of the images from the current faves in the spotlight, just to show you what they are up to and why I’m loving them.

Featured this week is…

the style files
ann wood
under a paper moon
the design files

and

unruly things.

I hope you like my little collage above, and please be sure to click on all the links as each will whisk you away to an ever inspiring place. Enjoy!

xx

PS big news up next! (well, it’s big for me)

la porte rouge et la mer…
Posted in blog favourites, nature May 21st, 2009 by piablog

Nadia from la porte rouge has been spending some unplanned time camping by the sea. Her latest posts while she is surrounded by nature and seascapes have me dreaming. alot. about being by my beloved sea. The photograph above is from a series of images Nadia took at sunset. I adore all of her photos, but this one has hold of my heart. You can see it bigger right here(just click on the image in her post).

merci pour toute l’inspiration chère nadia.

come {frolic!} with me…
Posted in blog favourites, stylists May 20th, 2009 by piablog

It’s 10pm. I just poured myself a glass of milk and peeled opened the gold wrap of a green & blacks milk chocolate bar, and now I find I have a moment or two to {frolic!}. Perhaps you care to join me…

If you haven’t checked out chelsea (aka ms blog-stylist-florist-extraordinaire of {frolic!})’s flickr set lately then i suggest you pour yourself a glass of milk, peel open a fresh bar of milk chocolate, and head on over. Along with a smattering of incredibly gorgeous new polaroids like you see above, there is also a fab collection of images of chelsea’s brothers beautiful barn which he is building by hand. And then there is this haunting photograph

…which was taken by a mysterious (guest)ghost – click here to read the description of how this photograph came to be.

Thank you for being a continual source of inspiration Chelsea.

xx

PS This song by Sophie Hunger is penetrating my surrounding airwaves, with many thanks to dear (blog)house reader and friend, itsasne, who is a secret source of inspiration unto herself.

PPS the birds are singing in the trees. at 10pm! it is so beautiful, i wish you could all hear them.

new blog alert: artist, louise wallace…
Posted in artists, blog favourites May 15th, 2009 by piablog

I don’t know about you, but I’m fascinated with how other artists find their inspiration and create their ‘magic’. I could sit for hours with painters, or writers, or designers discussing ‘how’ and ‘when’ their ideas came about, and what transformed from there. I love the process, the journey, and seeing how outside influences weave themselves into the piece.

Belfast artist and lecturer Louise Wallace has just started her own blog where she wants to document the way she makes a painting come to life. Scrolling through her blog i couldn’t help but be drawn in by her inspirations which include the gorgeous costumes and colours of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette

…as well as other artists, films, illustrations, her ‘in the bin’s (which are gorgeous), and her studio itself which she calls the ‘little shed’. And then there is the occasional visit from a little visitor named Rosie who comes to create magic too.

So if you’re anything like me and love peaking into artist studio’s, but are too shy to go ahead and do so when you pass by a bricks and mortar one, then go on and peak inside Louise’s little shed, she would love to have you over for a cuppa. I’ve been stopping by everyday and so far, she hasn’t kicked me out. Thank you Louise!!

if only I was living in london…

…i would have gone straight to rose alley to read my e-friend vic’s incredible short stories that she taped up on the wall. i have wanted her to write a book of short stories ever since I started reading her blog posts some 2 years ago. and now look what she’s gone and done… if only I was living in london. Please encourage her (with comments below or comments on her blog) to publish a book so we can all read what was posted on that beautiful old brick wall!

(these are lucky people)
