…the perfect way to start a monday morning, non? The jams were made from the fruits of French Boy’s childhood garden – cerises, abricots, and griottes. His mother made them and brought them with her on her recent visit.
This morning, while French Boy and I spooned mouthfuls onto our toast, he told me stories about his childhood garden, with trees full of cherries, plums, figs and apples. I would scarcely believe him if I hadn’t already seen the garden many times with my own eyes. It is magical to me, a world so different to my own. Like a secret garden.
I wonder if I might make a garden like this of my own one day. I dream of it often.
yes! what is it about orchards? dripping with fruit and promise. magical.

It sounds magical. I have The Lost Gardens of Sydney out and my organic gardening guide out at the moment plotting this weekend’s activities in my own garden. Bananas are on, I took two buckets of lemons to work today (to share my excess produce), I need to look uop how much longer before I can pull my carrots and I am pondering sourdough cheeses and chutneys to make the most of the lettuce and rocket and parsley that needs to be eaten. Mmmmmm.

Nothing better than homemade, right? My grandparents had such a garden as French Boy’s. And their homemade jams and jellies were always such a treat, especially the fig jam and plum jam. I hope you do have the garden of your dreams someday!

Toast and jam sounds like the perfect way to start the day, indeed… It’s funny you dream of growing your own fruit trees… with this post, you’ve transported me to a dream-like place, too… France, toast, love…. Thanks!

I couldn’t agree more! Homemade jam is one of those things to savour in life. I went to a pyo farm the other week and brought back loads of fruit and made redcurrant and raspberry jelly with infusion of lavender – it turned out yummy!

bali beach bunny – wow, a bar in bali! that sounds like a fab project, can’t wait to see what you create. the jam comes from the jura, in east france (close to the swiss border). Here is a post I wrote a while ago with some pictures for you: http://blog.piajanebijkerk.com/WordPress/2008/10/31/last-weekends-sojourn/
Thank you very much for being addicted to my blog 🙂
thank you everyone for your comments, I’m so glad homemade jam inspires you as much as it does me!
katie crackernuts – your garden sounds absolutely magical – bananas, lemons, carrots – yum yum yum.

ah my ex boyfriend used to live near the jura. on the swiss side. a little place called chavannes de bogis. so beautiful. i miss crossing the border on a sunday to go the amazing market. patisseries, roast chicken, gratin, cheese, meats, fruit, veg, miam.
their place looks so quaint and quirky.
making the nostalgia kick in!

That jam looks amazing. I, too, wish for a garden like that someday. Right now, I just have a few vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and zucchini), but I would love to have a few fruit trees and bushes. For now, I have to rely on the farmer’s market, which is a joy in itself!

Dear Pia,
Homemade jams from France must be great and of course those which are made by French Boy Garden (I suppose :-)) I just wanted to say that your blog is just a source of inspiration for me!
Have a wonderful weekend..
