very excited about this new servingware range

I get excited about things that may seem rather unexciting to others. Like this new servingware range from Wheel & Barrow Homewares that has me smiling…

Why, you may ask? Well, there is just one simple reason:

This new range is made from the fabulously renewable natural material of bamboo and degrades within a year of it being tossed away, making it pollution-less. Yep, this is all it takes for me to get very, very excited.

Wheel & Barrow has been one of my favourite stores for sourcing servingware while I’ve been styling in Sydney over the last few years. So I’m thrilled to hear they have this new range on their shelves. Bravo Wheel & Barrow!

and i love these delicate slim lined pouring vessels from up in the air somewhere.

Well, I made it back onto my bike over the weekend, but not without trepidation. Thank you for your awesome ongoing encouragement, it has helped so so much. This morning I was on my way in to a meeting – in a taxi – and I can tell you, my heart was in my throat every time we passed someone on a bike. But this driver was a good one and was very cautious. Phew.

I have so much to share with you this week, but it is also a frantic week of productions so let’s see how I go. Right now I am moodboarding, tomorrow I will be sourcing, the next day cooking, the next day shooting, the next day… well, catching my breath I imagine. I will be back here every moment in between. See you then!

Oh yes, and as I always like to end, I hope you have enjoyed this installment of…

an inspiration: weaving old into new…

So where was I… oh yes, my obsession with the work of weavers! Another weaving studio which I am smitten with is that of Kelly Stewart and Kenny Nix – the lovely couple who have created the Gene Straus Design Weaving Studio. They have an extensive online gallery and I have been perusing it over the past few weeks, imagining them looming away, coming up with new ideas and fashioning loose threads into woven treasures. There is such a personal touch to their website – writing about how each piece was formed and what it was formed from – you see, Kelly and Kenny create rugs from tossed away clothing and scrap wool selvages. There is so much work to strip the fabrics into usable threads, let alone the amount of time and energy into creating the designs and starting the production, making each of their handwoven rugs unique yet so affordable.

What you see above has been made from old denim jeans which I think is just amazing. I imagine this rug on white wooden floorboards at an entrance way. In fact, I imagine alot of their designs in white spaces, creating warmth, depth and texture. Weaving old into new – I love it.

A favourite prop…

I speak of Dinosaur Designs, one of my all-time favourite places to shop for props (and always find a little something or tens of somethings for myself) in Sydney. You may have noticed their pieces all through my portfolio. They have a beautiful studio in Strawberry Hills for us stylists, it is like walking into a candy store, and I exaggerate not, on a number of occassions I have nearly peed my pants with little girl giddiness when I spot their new designs. So it is with absolute delight that I just received an email from them showing off their latest collection, Bamboo

tibet-paris-hat.jpg

it’s a hat. and i spotted it in the window of paris’ very first tibetan store which opened over 32 years ago. there are tibetan boutiques and restaurants all over paris, not to mention a fabulous collection of tibetan flags flying from haussman apartment windows all over town. i have had my camera handy and have been snapping shots of the flags at every opportunity. right now my friend tenpa is finishing a three day protest walk sans food, along with some of his fellow tibetans in australia. here is a little interview he did before the walk. i hope he is doing okay right now. meanwhile i am in paris eating my heart out. the world is a funny (not funny ha ha) place.
