just when I thought sending holiday cards was a thing of the past…

Here is a quick still life of a few of the gorgeous cards I received last month – some made by hand, others printed photographs and illustrations on beautiful card stock. Thank you lovely friends.

I hope everyone has had a peaceful, ‘time to reflect’ start to 2012. I’ve been nesting as you can imagine, and am happy to say our house now – finally – feels like home. It took a while but it’s ready – and I’m ready – to greet this new little person in our lives.

Happy holidays everyone! Here’s to 2012 being a year of hope, action, and positive change for all and each individual.

xx

PS my friend Jenni rented out the movie “babies” for us yesterday, something she’s been telling me about for months but I hadn’t yet got around to finding. We watched it last night and it’s truly fabulous, I was especially drawn to the Namibian family, and french boy loved the mongolian nomadic way of life (impressed that they had a satellite dish and mobile phone). An inspiring film, I hope you take the time to watch it if you haven’t seen it already.

I had a similar experience; am just sorting them now. Several too beautiful to even cut and re-purpose; many must be used in some new way. Interestingly, before a card arrived, I decided I wanted to send snail mail cards with personal, real notes. It gave me joy and warmth.

Hi Joan, I’m sad to admit I haven’t sent holiday cards for years, somehow living abroad and moving from place to place made it seem difficult. But receiving these cards gave me such joy, to know these friends and strangers made the effort to ask me my new address and take the time to sit and write a few words, and go to the post office. I think I need to try and start again next holiday season – just to stop and take time to handwrite something always makes me happy.

Amanda – there is nothing better, I agree. You’ll love that film! Hope you’re well and getting ready for your fabulous year of travelling ahead, I can’t wait to hear about your adventures!

Ok i just love cards and letters, not only for christmas but anytime in the year! And i am so pissed off with all this technology (that i love), but since we have mails, no one sends a letter or a card anymore! Oh and the feeling when opening the mailbox and seeing that EXCEPT your bills you have letters is so fascinating!

Hi Pia, I am blown away from this post. My husband and I just had this conversation yesterday- except we were saying how outdated and costly the whole xmas card thing is. You buy them and the stamps and write merry xmas from us on every one and then you receive a whole lot back. Then where do you put them? Then they all get put in the recycle bin. I do appreciate the handmade kind however, that hasn’t happened for a while. Love your pic though- xxCorrina.

I’ve never heard of that movie, but since I’m from Namibia you have me intrigued. I will make it my mission to track it down!

A handmade card is a real joy and a lovely change from the usual bills that I receive in the post. My friend Tonia made me a card with a handmade textured ceramic heart on this year which I treasure. I make all my own cards as well but then it is good advertising as it’s my job!

Beautiful photo BTW. I love your little collections, they are charming.
