The Dutch, I’ve noticed, have a thing for lace. I, on the other hand, have never had a thing for lace.
But I must say I’m beginning to develop a fondness for it in the home, if used carefully and considerately. I like the lace story photographed above by Dutch photographer Erik van Lokven (who is also the photographer of Yvette’s delish pork belly recipe now in the (blog)house kitchen). I would be very happy to soak in that tub and then doze in that bed, surrounded by all that soft, pretty lace-ness.
Hmm, now how to combine my island living leanings with my new love for lace? oooh i love a challenge!

9:17pm: i’ve just re-read this post – have you noticed I sway between including myself as aDutchie, and then not (as above), when convenient? And this weekend, thanks to the soccer/football, Amsterdam has been taken over by the Scots. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen so many Scots in kilts in all my life. But due to their presence, it appears I’ve become a proud Scotswoman! because in recent months i’ve worked out i’m more scottish then anything else.
I thought you might find that interesting. or not.

lace and light go hand in hand, and I have a feeling you will find a way to combine them both! recently some experiments took me down a patch of placing lace between wool and felting it all together – the result was quite nice when held up to the window…

Beautiful… I have always been a huge fan of lace. It started when I was … 10 or something, it was lace and sequins. I think my tastes have matured (or so I hope) and I still get distracted by all things shiny, but lace is so elegant. I love that picture with the bathtub, how gorgeous – until I thought about the soap scum, haha!

you’re right…these photos are two beautiful ways to use lace in the home. i live in a small space find lace can be overwhelming…on my bed…maybe.

In the past, lace did not do it for me either… but yes used carefully, sparingly… I’m starting to warm slightly. I can’t wait to see your interpretation of ‘lacey island livings’! A-M xx

Lace has always made me think of old ladies and fussieness. I am liking it more lately, in simpler designs and modern settings. And I will not say no to a sweet non-frilly lace dress. 🙂

These photos are amazing! I’m also Dutch, and strangely I have only recently developed a passion for lace doilies after I found a box full of gorgeously crafted works at St Vinnies – now that I live in Australia. I use them to create impressions into ceramic bowls and dishes, and try and capture their beautiful patterns into contemporary stoneware pieces – work that keeps changing as I come across more lace!
