a little musical interlude…
Posted in music February 18th, 2009 by piablog

Last month back home in Sydney I went through my stash of CDs to see if I might find some old albums to listen to again. Among the ones I picked out was Sufjan Steven’s Seven Swans. Beside being immediately drawn to the cover illustrations…

…I love his sound on this album. “The dress looks nice on you” is my pick from the bunch. But recently I found a clip of him singing “lakes of canada” which I thought to be rather fabulous. I’d even go so far as to say it makes the perfect coffee break musical interlude for this fine Tuesday…

xx

PS tomorrow I am going to start my sydney posts! perhaps you are not as excited about this as i am?

PPS lilibeth is the name of harriet’s new friend, with much thanks to liz. but then kate commented that “the butterfly says her name is marcella”. perhaps I can make lilibeth a sister? OR maybe lilibeth has a split personality? hmm, much to ponder.

oh a butterfly with split personality. how interesting.
Marcella-Lilibeth i do love her golden orange wings like the sunrise or sunset depending on which little lady she is that day. I can just imagine marcella loves peppermint tea, walks in the park and is a writer of fairytales. Lilibeth sips caffe’ lattes, spends the evenings over a glass of wine with her lover franklin and reads russian novels in her spare time.
Oh I do believe she is my favorite.

or perhaps Lilibeth and Marcella are identical twins seperated at birth, and we can’t tell which one is which, nor do they know about each other… queue the organ music, and bring in the tea… oh and P.S. I love that Lilibeth has a lover named franklin (thanks Stephanie)

I love this album too! Last year when Sufjan was in Brisbane I went to see him and it was a really beautiful concert…there were a lot of ethereal wings…my favourite from the album is Seven Swans….”He will take you, If you run, He will chase you, He is the Lord…”

martine, good to know he travels to oz! i wasn’t aware that this album was so full of biblical references, it’s very interesting.

liz and stephanie – wow!! you guys rock, your ideas are incredible, I’m so inspired by little lilbeth/marcella!! I can’t wait to find the time to do some more drawings of her and see how she develops. I could imagine these little stories, her lover franklin is a glorious addition, thank you for sharing!

    lotta – my pleasure.

emma – yes, she will be lilibeth and marcella!

sherrieg – that canada is indeed pretty great! I’m glad you like this song.

oooh lady ann, i’m so pleased to hear this! I will post photos soon so we both get our dose of home.

    xx
