amsterdam: house(boat) envy…
Posted in amsterdam, pia's photos November 6th, 2008 by piablog

Ever since I arrived in Amsterdam this time last year, I have been living on a houseboat. And I won’t lie to you – it’s the best. I just love it. It’s my little floating hideaway, my sanctuary, my home.

But I will admit, I frequently find myself with green-eyes admiring the many other houseboats lining the city’s canals. They are all unique in their own way and I can’t help but wonder what life might be like on them… “what sort of windows do they have? Big windows? Skylights even? Balcony space? Oh, look, those people are smiling so much more on their boat!” And so on. I know, it’s ridiculous. But seriously, some of these floating homes just make me stop dead in my tracks and sigh: “wow”.

“Hi, my name is Pia, and I have house(boat) envy”…

…knock knock…

…who’s there?

“Pia” “Pia who?”

“PiacanIcomelivewithyou?”

It’s about now that this song comes to mind.

House.
Boat.
Bliss.

I have houseboat envy of you! Was it hard to find a boat?… I’m guessing you rent? I think it sounds like heaven..

Your houseboat is beautiful and after reading your entry I found myself wishing for similar lifestyle. I think I’m going to have to add one more day dream to my list. Let’s see… along with living in an adobe at the base of the Sandia Peak in New Mexico, in an apartment over a bakery in Paris, Argentina…

Oh Pia, it is lovely all of it. I would bake a loaf of aran’s banana bread and knock on each door and hope they invited me inside…but you know pia it is in yours i would linger and maybe you would play the piano, because in your houseboat there is a gem ..and that is you..

you know Pia I had never even really thought about travelling to Amsterdam let alone living there, but since starting to follow your blogs a few months ago it’s now in my top 3 must-go destinations!
Every time someone in my vicinity mentions Amsterdam I interject “oh oh I know of someone who lives in a houseboat on a canal in Amsterdam, it’s so amazing and beautiful!”
