let the cleansing begin…
Posted in personal October 25th, 2008 by piablog

So I thought it might be wise to clear out some space in my recently missing head to enable new randomness to come forth. And it dawned on me while thinking about this, why not empty it right here? Perhaps you feel the urge to back away right about now? I understand.

I should actually be clearing away the props in this boat for the same reasons but I just can’t make myself do it, so still it sits. and waits…

Head space first. Boat space later.

New aussie blog pal Ness tagged me a couple of weeks back with a request to reveal 6 random facts about myself, and I figure that might be the perfect way to begin the cleansing process. I never get bored of reading other blogger’s six random facts and laughing out loud (not at you, with you), but mine never seem as interesting. And let’s be truthful, we’ve been here a couple of times already since I started this blog. But believe it or not, I did manage to find another 6 random facts about myself that perhaps you didn’t already know. You might find them somewhat entertaining, let’s find out…

1. I enjoy having breakfast for dinner. (and i just had breakfast for lunch).

2. There is one lesson I never learn. It is this: piping hot liquids need to be cooled before I put them in my mouth.

Intriguing, non? The amount of times I have burnt my tongue is infinite. I have one rather special friend who is the only person who has noticed -in fact, could even go so far as laying claim to having discovered– this phenomenon. When speaking to him recently, the first question he asked me was, “So, have you burnt your tongue lately?” and the answer was a predictable “yes”, followed by the full description of how. He laughs. And that’s all that matters.

3. I heavily dislike (read: despise) the word “bespoke”. I refuse to use it in my own writing, and while I’ve been writing my book the topic could benefit tremendously from the use of this word many times over, but instead I go to great lengths to find alternatives. When the book comes out, if somehow this word has slipped in there, you must tell me, but then I will probably slit my wrists.

4. I heavily adore (read: completely smitten about) the word “albeit”. I use this word all the time and go to great lengths to find sentences to use it in. I suffer if I haven’t been able to use it (like right now, believe me, I’ve tried, albeit feebly. OOH!)

5. I like promite more than I like vegimite. There. I said it.

6. This morning, while plucking my right eyebrow, I noticed my first permanent forehead wrinkle. It is a wrinkle formed from always raising that eyebrow in surprise. “Really?” Exactly.

…………………………..

Thanks for the fun Ness, it’s been wonderful getting to know you through your blog and your tag. We must indulge in this again sometime! Perhaps over coffee and cake one day. Until then!

xx

PS. I’m convinced everyone is sick of me asking to play tag, so I shall spare innocent victims this time ’round. Unless of course you just happen to have 6 random facts in need of getting out, for your own cleansing process, then yes! please! and let me know in a comment to this post. x

your list is great fun, albeit too short ;). the word i dislike intensely is ‘hopefully’. what does it mean? for example, ‘hopefully, i will find my head today.’ does that mean ‘with hope’ or ‘i hope’? albeit, i do love he word ‘hope’.

    1. I bit my nails as a kid (really badly) and was always being scolded for it. Then one day when I was 15, I was sitting with my classmates and one of them asked me why not just stop doing it? So, I did. And while I still do it from time to time (when I’m nervous), my nails are pretty nice and I leave them alone.

    2. I can not sing. I’m a terrible singer. No really. Terrible. But, I do it anyway, because it’s fun.

    3. I get really frustrated by indecisive people. I’ve never been able to understand the inability to take a stand.

    4. I have a bad habit of interrupting people. It bugs me, and I do it all the time, even when I know it’s wrong. Stupid, eh?

    5. My mother drives me crazy, sometimes. Ok, so that’s no so unique, is it? But still. It’s like she does it on purpose.

    6. I don’t wear a wedding ring, though I’ve been married for 5 years. It’s partly because I don’t think being married defines me as a person, but it’s mostly because for a long time, I’ve had a food allergy (though I didn’t discover it until recently) and it caused me to retain water during the night. My wedding ring would get stuck on my finger and cut off the circulation. (My shoes were always tighter in the morning, too).

So, that’s it – now you know me!!

Stljoie – totally agree, but i do find myself using it still, can we find an alternative so I can use that instead?

Ness – you are welcome! It was fun after all. I’m impressed with your use of epitome, it has yet to roll off my tongue (not sure I even know how to pronounce it correctly – e.g. there was once upon a time I thought paridigm was pronounced para-digg’em) – CORRECTION – I just looked up epitome and i realise I use it all the time! For some reason I didn’t realise that is how you spell it, I am a TOTAL loser.

Annie – I love askew too! I use it way too often. I’m a bit glad you share the same problem, i don’t feel like such a nincompoop now since there is at least two of us out there! 🙂

Danielle, that is AWESOME! Number 5 – I’m totally sure mine does the same, number3 – it drives me crazy!. number 6 – you crack me up! It was great getting to know you. Anyone else want to play?

Corine – merci, but I also advocate free speech and all, so please feel free to use it anytime (unless it is to purposely provoke me, that could then be a problem).

    Cindy K -I hear ya.

Lovely 6 random facts. I think I have a pet peeve with expressions more than words. Wait, I never say words I don’t pronounce right because of the accent thingie like “iron” and “oesophagus”…thank goodness, chances are slim that they might end up in the same sentence!!

excellent facts Pia…glad you can’t stand the use of “bespoke” (ugggh…me too) albeit, however difficult to use…wait, did I use that correctly?

I love the word ‘bespoke’…I never use it, but truly it is a word never, ever used here in Canada and I just recently heard it for the first time…can you believe it? And I thought, wow, what a beautiful sounding word. This is too funny!

I have a friend who, like the eldest daughter in “The Poison Wood Bible”, confuses words or makes them up and uses them anyway. If they sound important she will insert them anywherein a sentence. Continually amuses me but sometimes I am embarassed for her- she is oblivious, and that is a word I like! There, I have bespunken.

Really? Can anyone play? I’m not sure that I should … but I’ll put it out there!
    1. When I was 15 I thought that when I turned 16 everything would be fine. No problems. No worries. Nothing to get in the way of my life. Hmmm. Magical 16 never turned out that way! In fact all the problems, worries, stresses and challenges only made my life more exciting!
    2. I looove pasta and potatoes.
    3. I can’t bear clutter and yet when I tidy it up I miss the randomness of the clutter!
    4. Speaking of words I wish I knew the context in which to use the word: apropos. Any thoughts!
    5. I am running out of random things..
    🙂

Claire – I love your ‘petit truths’! Thanks for playing along.

Aran – no way! but remember, the lighting in those bathrooms is not at all flattering – it may have been the light itself, casting a wrinkle on your forehead, so be sure to check again!

Trupeach – I love making you smile!

Nelly! – fabulous list! But there is one missing – surely you can find one more? And your first one I felt the exact same way. In fact, I am with you on all your randomness!

Linda Sue – that may actually be me 🙂 I do a bit of the same thing sometimes.

Liberty – oh no, whatever you do, don’t over use it! But enjoy your new word 🙂

bonbon oiseau – I’m so glad you’re with me on this!

Tartelette – French boy also has trouble with the word ‘iron’ and he tries to avoid it too. Sometimes he also says ‘air’ as ‘hair’, I love it!

Ms Cleaver – kinship wih our ‘burning of tongue’s. I’m not glad you burn your tongue, but I’m a bit glad to have a buddy who does it too, so thanks for letting me know.

I do realize that I am bit late in responding to this post, but I came across it today and it made me think of all the petite quirks we all have that make us all charmingly unique.
So if I may, here is my list:

    – I love collecting seashells and rocks.
I think I must have adopted that habit from my mother. My childhood home in the countryside of Norway is filled with vases and ceramic bowls with rocks and seashells from all over the world. And when you lean in they still carry with them the scent of the ocean.

    – There is something to be said about lounging in bed with freshly washed white linens on saturday mornings doing nothing but smile, think and stretch out legs and arms accompanied with giggles. I adore the summer Saturday mornings for its light and endless possibilities that lies ahead, and fall Saturday mornings for the chill that makes you tuck your feet in and wrap both hands around a big cup of tea.

    – I heart my mothers hands that with their soft touch can make any worry go away in a split second.

    – I love the sound of crunch, and the warm smell of a freshly baked baguette.

-I cant wait for big wet fall leaves to cover dimly lit streets in october, and put on my hunter boots for a afternoon stroll.

    – I treasure the moment when I can with the back of a spoon whack the golden sugar cover of a Creme Brule.

Now thats my random list of things that makes me smile.
Thank you for giving me an opportunity to think about them.

    Have a wonderful day!
