A little morning wander through the blogosphere found me these two images above from this is glamourous and coco + kelly. You know I am not a great fan of opulent rooms and ‘rich’ interiors – my style is more along the earthy, real and livable kind – creating rooms that are actually usable and cosy (you should hear me balk at mtv cribs – it’s apparently humorous to watch me watching this show, I just can’t believe people pretend to live in those places and try to get us, the viewers, to aspire to their pretend lives. nu-uh).
But it’s not like I don’t like shiny things. Because I do – especially like this entrance way and these stairs – I love combining old wood with sparkling things, I find it really brings out the texture and age, and sentimentality of the surroundings.
And that foyer is just cool. I have never been a huge fan of stained glass or shiny wall surfaces (my oma loved opulence – she mirrored her entire hallway and loved a chandelier or ten – and although it did have a ‘wow’ effect, it was more the sort of ‘wow, i suddenly feel a little sick’ effect.) But this entrance way makes me think that maybe one day, I could live with stained glass and reflective walls. Maybe.
The foyer is lovely… I could live with the stained glass most definitely, but not the reflective walls. Too much for my simple tastes to cope with 🙂

oh, pia! thanks so much for the mention. while i love a bit of opulence, i agree that it’s not always so livable. but that space just called to me. i’m glad you like it as well, and love that you paired it with those stairs, which i (of course) swooned over as well.

Love that entryway–there’s just something so inviting about all the sparkle and how all the elements work together. And those disco stairs, well–who can resist such fun? Certainly caused a stir from the moment the post was published. love that ‘baileys by post’ site! I was ooohing and ahhing over some of the stuff until I realised how paradoxical it would be to spend those kind of carbon-miles (air shipping from UK to Aus) on a mere chotchke! Ah well…it’s inspired me to trawl for similar locally.

me too, me too! i totally loved this when i saw it, especially the disco ball stairs. this is glamorous finds the most fabulous stuff. there was a pic of hers i saved recently of a foyer with a raw wood staircase & raw paneled wood walls, very bare bones, but paired with this gorgeous crystal chandelier. best combo ever.
