i don’t know much about…
Posted in etsy favourites, handmade June 2nd, 2008 by piablog

…bloglines, blogcatalog, de.l.i.c.i.ou.s (where do all the dots go?!), or flickr. I don’t know how to rss feed something, and I have no idea what technorati is.

Are you surprised to hear this raw and awful truth? me too. it’s embarrassing to admit and right now my cheeks are flushed fuchsia.

BUT. what I have become familiar with is etsy. now i know most of you must be asking yourselves, “how ancient is this woman?!”, but look, here is the story…

Us stylists (any of you out there, lots of head nodding and “right on sista!” would be helpful here), we are more what you’d call “shop stalkers”: I mean, we have only just learnt that you can locate a shop by looking it up in the yellow pages on the internet, all this time we’ve been lugging the hard copy around on the front seat of our car along with our baby wipes, fabric samples, and multitude of tape measures (yes I’m looking at you jboo).

And, well, we have our faves (I’ve already mentioned this one and this one with plenty more to come), so we usually go straight to them when we know what we need, and then branch out from there.

My plan, I must reveal, has been to use the (blog)house as my branch. So as I find interesting items that I think will come in handy for shoots, I blog about them, for two reasons – first to support small businesses because g.o.d knows how much I know how much this is necessary; and secondly as a personal ‘pia’ pages (yes sorry ‘yellow’, you have been thrown out the window) for myself and my friends to refer to. Some stylists are known to hold on to their secret boutiques and craftspeople like it is gold, but I’ve never been one of them.

are you getting the gab of my gib now? good. so on and upward with who and what are among my favourites in etsy!

FOR ME:

bag.jpg
I want this bag from Rome-based designer ninù. Check out her other awesome designs here.

bag2.jpg
The Lulu Satchel from Tennessee designer Erica Bazile. Beautifully made. Stylish. Classy. Funky. And all that.

FOR THE BUBS IN MY LIFE:

rita-baby.jpg
I don’t know what a windsee is, but I love Rita! and her friends Bettee, Bobee, and June – all handmade form vintage fabrics by Canadian-born, Melbourne-dweller One Girl. She also has a blog which is pretty cool.

sofia.jpg
Sofia Barão has added this sweet little number to her etsy shop. I think it would be perfect in a baby’s room.

& FOR ME, AGAIN:

tissu.jpg
Lovely Marie has just opened her very own boutique! It’s called Tissu and is fast becoming sold out with her first items (yes I left a bit of a dint after buying a couple of her beautiful crochet pins and garland, sorry guys but first in first served!).

So I hope you’ve enjoyed this first segment of:

You will also find an etsy category here now so you can check out my etsy favourites at any time. Happy Etsying!

How do you survive without an RSS-reader? I use bloglines and that’s the only way I can keep track of all the blogs I try to read / look at the beautiful photo’s. Oops, I looked at the number and there are 1000 blogs in my bloglines. I admit that’s too much…..

And I think you will like wishpot. It’s a site where you can ad things to your own wishlist. So if you see something you like on etsy or in a online store you can ad it to your own online account and place it in your own wishlists. It will remember where you saw it, how much the costs are and I think it will even compare prices. I onlye discovered it recently so I’m not very familiar yet, but it looks promising.

irene, i have no idea how i survive – i miss out on heaps, i know that much! i envy you with your fancy bloglines. i don’t even know what that means.

marie, you are so welcome. i’ll be back to see what else you have in store!

Hi Liberty Post! Looks like I will be stopping by soon to try to figure out what you are talking about. Will you be shocked to learn that I have never watched an episode of Sex & The City?! So I have no idea what your comment means. But thanks for giving me the opp to be your hero – looks like I have already failed that one! 🙂

Danielle, thanks, glad you are into it!

Mary-Laure, I agree, when I first learnt about etsy I was completely lost, but now I am getting the hang of it, it’s so awesome!

Tyler, I hear you – i jump up and down with delight at the simplest of internet related tasks.

Joslyn, you are so ahead of the game! adorable softies indeed.

Oh yes, Etsy is amazing, I can agree with you there. I have a bloglines account and am not even really sure why I would ever use it. Just learned a little about technorati the other day and have no idea what del.icious is!!! BUT FLICKR is totally amazing. Highly recommended.

If you get an account on http://www.bloglines.com/ you can tell bloglines what blogs you want to follow. And then you only have to look at your own bloglines-site to see what blogs are updated.
So you don’t have to visit your favourite blogs every day, but you get a warning when they are updated. So you never miss an article.

You can even get an update for etsy-stores or for the photostreams of Flickr-people or Flickr-groups, or even a Flickr-set. It’s sooooo much easier then visiting them all by yourself.

And if you log on on another computer (f.i. at work or during vacations) you still can acces http://www.bloglines.com to read all your favourite blogs.

I am so happy with bloglines. I can recommend it to anybody!!!!!!

I don’t understand why i done it but a marketing blog for bloggers recommends me to. AH ah ah…..
Etsy is really a good place to find unexpensive stuffs.
I love the idea of wearing an accessoiry someone made in small production and at home.

Actually, one of the first things I noticed and admired about you was the fact that you are really open and generous about your sources, locations, secrets etc. I like to think that by giving that stuff out, it returns ten-fold in one way or another. Hmm, here’s hoping!

Hi Krissy, i know a bit about flickr, but only just enough to know i can look at beautiful pictures! I haven’t taken the next step to learn more yet but I will.

Irene, your enthusiasm and passion for bloglines has nearly convinced me! I will check out your links during my next tea break, thanks so much for all the great info!

Chloe, me too – i want a wardrobe full of handmade things!

Miriam, thank you. i like to think the same thing about giving and sharing, so I’ll continue doing so and we shall see what happens, lets test our theory!

Nyla, glad you are into it! now I just need to find the time to fit etsy into my everyday life. now is probably not the best time, i need as little distractions as possible. oops.

Yay, Etsy! I love reading your blog, but this is the subject which made me comment. (Not even a gorgeous house boat compares to Etsy!) I could seriously spend every waking minute looking at everyone’s beautiful offerings. And I’m tickled pink that I’m going to be their featured seller tomorrow! Take care.
